#Logistics and #SupplyChain are two different things.
Let's start by establishing the definitions for each term.
Each link in the supply chain represents a vendor, a service provider, or a customer. In order to have a supply chain, all links have to be connected. When all links are properly connected, information and goods can flow.
Yes, looks simple, right? The real challenge is maintaining that flow!
A proper flow of information and cost-effective flow of goods is crucial to keep the supply chain alive. Any supply chain needs adaptable solutions and viable processes in order to maintain the continuous flow of goods and information.
This is where logistics come into action.
Logistics provides a healthy flow in the supply chain. At the same time, logistics creates a long-term foundation for the supply chain. I see all logistics efforts like the backbone of an effective and sustainable supply chain; it holds everything together. The processes we select to take place in the supply chain will impact it, positively or negatively.
The best logistics approach is unique and should be specially crafted for each move. You should definitely have parameters and KPIs, but those are merely guidelines.
A good combination of factors to consider in logistics can be the process itself, the time, and the cost. There is no perfect, exact, or rigid logistics formula to apply to the supply chain because we live in a very dynamic world. Things are always changing, but the process, the time and the cost are powerful pieces in the supply chain. I strongly suggest adapting each logistic transaction to the current status, considering the cost, the time, and the process. It's our job to do research and review all the process elements and resources each time. After all, we want our company to stand out. Go for it!
When smart, cost-effective and time-efficient logistics are taking place, the supply chain is transformed from the inside, it shines and most definitely, it has a successful continuous stream.
