You might hear a lot about the word " #COMMODITY ", but... do you know what it means?
The Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) has confirmed a very simple definition of this term and I find it very appropriate. A commodity is "any physical item that is traded in commerce."
Everything you have in your house and office, every item you see in a store, the ingredients you use to prepare food, all of those things are commodities.
Commodities can be Fresh or Frozen; Dry, Liquid or Gas, Raw materials, or Hazardous elements, to name a few. There are so many! And, each one of them has their own set of rules and handling requirements.
Commodities are always moving in the supply chain. Without commodities, the supply chain would be empty, or furthermore, couldn't exist. When commodities are continuously flowing in the supply chain, promptly, with the proper handling and at a minimum cost, #logistics are in action.
I believe #LogisticsAreEverywhere therefore, there is always a better way to keep commodities moving. Look for them!
There will always be opportunities to improve processes to control the flow of commodities in the supply chain. Choose sustainable improvements and with them, transform your logistics processes. You will see the difference.
